Candidates for male breast reduction have skin envelopes, or flaps, that hang loose and flaccid on their chest wall. Additionally, you should be in good overall health, at or close to your weight goal, and committed to maintaining your new shape over time.

You should also have realistic goals for the procedure, and a good understanding of the potential risks and complications. Though they occur rarely, there are risks common to any surgery, such as infection and blood clots, as well as risks specific to chest reduction including, asymmetry and changes in nipple sensitivity.  At the time of your consultation, Dr. Kaufman will review with you all

Male Chest Reduction and Contouring Surgery and Recovery

Male chest reduction and contouring surgery takes about two hours to complete and is performed under general anesthesia in our onsite, outpatient surgical center. The procedure involves reducing the skin envelope around the chest and vertically repositioning the nipple and areola (still attached) to a higher location. Liposuction is often included to resculpt the chest area.

Initial recovery from male chest reduction and contouring, takes place over one or two weeks, with light activities being resumed gradually.  More strenuous activities, including heavy lifting, can be added back into your routine in about four to six weeks as you complete your full recovery.
