If you are considering facelift surgery after significant weight loss, it’s no surprise. When you lose additional volume under the skin through weight loss, the effect on your face can be dramatic. If you’re like many patients, as you shed pounds, you might begin to think your face looked better before you lost the weight. A facelift can rejuvenate your face and help you appear years younger.
If you feel that Kaufman Plastic Surgery can help and you would like to learn more about a specific procedure, please contact us online or give us a call at (916) 983-9895. You can also request a virtual consultation.
Candidates for Facelift Surgery
The best candidates for facial rejuvenation are men and women who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations. Most patients are in their mid-forties to sixties, but many successful procedures have been completed on patients in their seventies and eighties.
When considering what added boost a facelift might give the new you, you may also want to consider a brow lift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) as well. Since these procedures treat other areas of the face, they are often combined with a facelift for maximum improvement.
Facelift Surgery and Recovery
Facelifts are performed on an outpatient basis in our onsite surgical center. The surgery typically takes two to three hours to perform (longer if it’s combined with other procedures) and is done under general anesthesia. During your procedure, the underlying muscles and soft tissues of the face are tightened to provide better support to the overlying skin. Fatty deposits are removed along with loose or excess skin for a final result that looks younger and more flattering. The incision winds around the ear and is normally very well hidden. With a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. David Kaufman, you can expect to look natural, fresh and bright following your facelift.
After surgery, you’ll have bandages for 24 hours and a small drain for one week. You can expect post-surgical swelling to peak within a few days of surgery, and then begin to dissipate. Recovery takes two or three weeks, during which time you’ll be required to take it easy. Most people find they’re ready to return to work in about two weeks, with final results realized in about six weeks.
The risks associated with facelift surgery are minimal. They include infection, hematoma, reaction to anesthesia, and nerve damage.
Facelift surgery is often a part of the overall post weight loss plastic surgery plan.
